The first Day aboard Sea Biscuit

Saturday, May 29th 2021, the first day on our boat. I’m not sure how many boats we have been aboard during the last 10-12 years, thinking or dreaming about having a sailboat. But this Memorial Day weekend, we are on our own boat! No, we’re not sailing with dolphins playing at the bow, grilling fresh fish in the cockpit, or having sundowners looking for the green flash. Instead we are inventorying, cleaning, and just getting a feel for the boat and it contents. There were a few surprises, both good (spare engine parts and equipment), and not so good (sandwich found in the refrigerator)…. yuck.

We are replacing a few items found to be lacking during the survey. The compass had a really large bubble in the top and seemed like it had seen better days. So I removed it and will shop for a new one to install. The bow seats or princess seats at the front of each bow are made of wood and need replaced. We are going to use something more sturdy than wood since they are so exposed to the elements. At least one mattress is getting tossed away.

All in all, a great first day!
